Upper West Road Safety Authority Caution Road Users Against Driving or Riding Under Stress

The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has taken proactive steps to enhance road safety awareness among road users in the Upper West Region, emphasizing accident prevention, stress management when embarking on long distant journeys and as well as adherence to traffic regulations.

According to the Commission in the Region, it is recorded that, majority of road accidents in some parts of the country is as a result of drivers being stressed up whilst using the road.

Mr. Alhassan Majeed, a Road Safety Educator from the Upper West Regional Road Safety Authority speaking on Radio Progress Super Morning Show August 05, 2026 revealed that, the human mind and body sometimes get tired especially when embarking on a journey and therefore it is important for long distant road users to always find a point of rest in the middle of their journey to prevent getting involved in accidents.

“Road users should take note that, stress can lead to road rushes and therefore, as a road user you need to find a place to rest for least an hour before continuing your journey because your mind and body sometimes need to rest when stressed up especially when embarking on a long distant  journey” he noted. .

During the program, Mr. Abdul Fatawu Sidik, the Planning Manager for the NRSA in the Upper West Region, also urge long distant road users to always prepare when planning to embark on a journey.

He said drivers who travel during day times should always rest in the night ahead of their journey to enable them stay awake on road; adding that, it mandatory for drivers who travel to far areas to rest for at least 6 hour or 7 hours before the start of their journey.

The Planning Manager at the Upper West National Road Safety Authority also noted that, most road users when stressed up whilst traveling over speed on the road and over speeding according to him is against road safety regulations.

“Over speeding on road is sometimes caused by drivers who get tired and therefore as a driver, you need to stop in the middle of your journey and walk around or check the fitness your body before continuing the journey”.   

Mr. Sidik emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts among these pillars in reducing road crashes and promoting safer driving behaviors.

He urged road users to always stay alert and prepared at all times, cautioning against driving under stress and encouraging them to stick to road safety precaution.
