Mr. Abdul Nasir Saani, popularly known as Bunas, the Upper West Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has officially declared his intention to seek re-election as the party’s regional chairman.
He made the announcement on Sunday, September 13, 2026, during a meeting with selected media houses ahead of the NDC’s regional executive elections scheduled for November.
Mr. Saani stated that his decision to pursue another term is motivated by the desire to build on the party’s impressive performance in the 2024 general elections and to further strengthen the NDC’s structures in preparation for the 2028 polls.
Highlighting his leadership record, he noted that under his stewardship, the party successfully navigated two general elections, achieving significant gains in parliamentary representation.
In 2020, the NDC held eight of the Upper West Region’s 11 parliamentary seats, with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) controlling three constituencies: Nandom, Lambussie, and Sissala East.
However, in the 2024 elections, the NDC swept all three NPP-held seats, securing a clean sweep of all 11 parliamentary constituencies in the region.
Mr. Saani’s declaration sets the stage for a third consecutive term as the party’s regional chairman.
He also expressed gratitude to the media in the for their continued support and cooperation since he first announced his candidacy.
