Hon. Bede A. Ziedeng, alongside National Ambulance Service (NAS) CEO Dr. George Kojo Owusu, officially commissioned and handed over a fully refurbished municipal ambulance to the Lawra Ambulance Service Department in September 2026.
The constituency ambulance had been broken down and out of service for over two years, leaving residents without local emergency medical transport.
The refurbishment cost over GH¢130,000 and was carried out by the National Ambulance Service following coordinated lobbying and engagements involving MP Bede Ziedeng, the Ministry of Health, and the NAS.
The handover restores vital emergency healthcare delivery and response capabilities for the Lawra Municipality in the Upper West Region.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Ziedeng expressed appreciation to Osman Mahmoud, the Upper West Regional Coordinator of the National Ambulance Service, for his steadfast support throughout the extensive repair process.
He also commended the Municipal Ambulance Officer, Paemt-Nuatro Stephen, for his patience and resilience during the prolonged period of inactivity.
The Lawra Lawmaker also explained that the delay was due to the complexity of the technical repairs required, emphasizing that a thorough fix was necessary to ensure the ambulance’s reliability and safety, rather than opting for a temporary patch that might have led to future breakdowns.
The Lawra Municipal Health Director, Madam Phoebe Balagumyetime, described the occasion as a historic milestone for the community. She highlighted that the absence of the ambulance for two years had significantly hampered emergency referrals, complicating patient care and access to timely medical intervention.
The Municipal Ambulance Officer, Paemt-Nuatro Stephen, expressed gratitude to the MP and all stakeholders involved in the refurbishment effort.
He also dismissed claims that the ambulance service is politically affiliated, reaffirming its status as a non-partisan entity committed to serving all residents equally.
The return of the ambulance marks a significant step forward in strengthening emergency medical services in Lawra, promising improved response times and better healthcare outcomes for the community.
