The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has held a sensitization programme for students of St. Baslides Technical Institute and Kaleo Secondary Technical Institute on opportunities under its Labour Exchange (previously Work Abroad) initiative.
YEA officials said the programme targeted the two schools because many overseas vacancies require trade skills such as plumbing, welding and fabrication, and electrical work areas in which the schools provide training.
Nadowli/Kaleo YEA District Director, Mr. Remus Kpan speaking to Radio Progress applauded government for the initiative and also called for fair access to opportunities, urging that rural candidates not be crowded out by applicants from larger cities.
“I am calling on our officers at the National level to make sure that, access to such opportunities is given to candidates based in rural communities instead of those close to them”.
Mr. Remus also added there is an ongoing nationwide registration exercise for qualified persons who are willing to occupy vacancies in abroad and therefore the people of Nadowli-Kaleo District should not turn their backs towards the ongoing exercise.
Meanwhile, some students from beneficiary institutions in the District interacting with Radio Progress expressed their happiness for being part of the sensitization workshop; pointing out that, the forum has sharpened their brains on easy path to secure jobs abroad after graduating from school.
