Mahama urges trainee nurses to prioritizes job security over allowances

Former President John Mahama has advised trainee nurses to focus on securing stable employment rather than depending on allowances, highlighting the need for sustainable job opportunities in the healthcare sector.

Speaking to trainee nurses on Saturday, the NDC flagbearer acknowledged their financial challenges but stated that long-term employment is more beneficial than temporary allowances.

He reassured them that his administration would prioritize job creation within the healthcare sector, ensuring that nurses and other healthcare workers have stable and rewarding careers.

“We know the problems with trainee nurses, and that’s why, when we were in government, we proposed replacing your allowances with student loans.

“Our goal was to create more employment opportunities for you. What matters most is securing a job after you finish school, not just the allowance,” Mahama stated.

He criticized the current government for failing to fulfil its promises, pointing out that many nurses have gone without their allowances for up to 30 months.
