MTN Ghana supports Kobina Festival with GHC 20,000, Airtime and Girls in ICT Push

MTN Ghana reaffirmed its commitment to the people of Lawra by sponsoring this year’s Kobina Festival with a GHC 20,000 donation, thousands of cedis worth of airtime and a sponsored football showdown that crowned a local champion with a trophy and cash prize.

The annual Kobina Festival, a cornerstone of Lawra’s cultural calendar, benefited from MTN’s long-standing patronage as the company’s contribution helped underwrite events, logistics and community activities. The football match drew large crowds, created a festive atmosphere and handed the winning side a substantial prize that energized supporters and players alike.

Speaking to the media, Collins Agyei, Regional Sales Manager for MTN Ghana, framed the festival support as part of a broader community investment strategy by MTN and the MTN Foundation. Agyei announced that the Foundation’s Girls in ICT programme, aimed at equipping young girls with digital skills and opportunities, will follow other outreach initiatives starting next week.

Community reaction
Naa Nymenmaal Yobo III, Kunyukuo Divisional Chief and Chairman of the Kobina Festival Planning Committee, expressed heartfelt gratitude for MTN Ghana’s consistent backing. He thanked the company for its generosity and prayed for continued blessings on the organisation as a partner in Lawra’s social and cultural development.
Significance
By pairing ceremonial support with skills-driven programming such as Girls in ICT, MTN Ghana is reinforcing the Kobina Festival as both a celebration of heritage and a platform for long-term community empowerment, linking tradition with practical opportunities for the next generation.
