A concerned teacher in the Nandom municipal Mr. Ebenezer Nabiebache has stated that teachers are still going to schools to teach because of their commitment to their job and not because government has resolved all their grievances. He said that it is time government expedites action on Their grievances.
It should be recalled that the Ghanaian government and the pre-tertiary teacher unions have yet to conclude their negotiations. The teacher unions, including GNAT, NAGRAT, and CCT-GH, have been negotiating with the government for a new collective agreement since the previous one expired in August 2023.
The negotiations have been ongoing but have yet to be finalized, with the National Labour Commission (NLC) setting a number of deadline dates for the parties to reach an agreement.
The teacher unions have been seeking better conditions of service, including improved salaries, allowances, and a functional scheme of service. The negotiations are still ongoing, with the parties working to reach a mutually acceptable agreement.
However, according to him allowances like the professional development allowance deprived area allowance among others are to be considered this month according to a release to the teacher unions this week.
Mr. Ebenezer Nabiebache make these remarks in an exclusive interview.
