
The member of Parliament for Wa West Constituency, Hon. Peter Lanchene Toobu, has on Tuesday, 5th March, 2024, commissioned and handed over 3 boreholes with hand pumps to 3 communities, in line with the Sustainable Development Goal 4’s aim to provide clean water for all.
The communities that benefited from the boreholes are Daboziiri under the Siiru electoral area, Pigbengben in the Vieri electoral area, and Zowayeli under the Bankpama electoral area.

In an interview with Radio Progress news team, The MP shared his personal motivation for this initiative, highlighting how his mother used to queue for water to ensure he could go to school in his younger days in Poyentanga. This experience has fueled his commitment to providing potable water to communities lacking clear water sources.
The MP revealed that, the funding support for the boreholes was obtained from the national security through the Gulf of Guinea Northern Regions social cohesion project (SOCO).
He stated that, he had lobbied for 5 boreholes out of which 3 were approved and he expects the remaining 2 boreholes from the national security in the next two months.
The residents of the beneficiary communities expressed their gratitude to the MP for the timely intervention, as the provision of potable water will significantly improve their daily lives.
Women in Daboziiri, Pigbengben, and Zowayeli communities shared their previous struggles with water scarcity, including competing with domestic animals for water and suffering from waterborne diseases such as diarrhoea and cholera.
The impact of the boreholes was evident as residents expressed their gratitude for the timely intervention, highlighting the challenges they faced in accessing clean water and the resulting health issues. The chiefs and people of the beneficiary communities shared their previous struggles with domestic animals for water and the health implications of inadequate water sources.
Hon. Peter Lanchene Toobu has drilled a total of 21 boreholes across the district Since he came to contest the NDC Wa West Constituency Parliamentary Primaries in 2019.

During the commissioning, he was accompanied by the party’s Constituency chairman, Hon. Matthew Vaar, and other party executives and faithful.
