Bamaahu Assembly Member Urges willingness to compromise for the election of PM

WA MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY- PM ELECTION IN LIMBO

The Assembly Member for Bamaahu Electoral Area, Hon. Yahaya Jiga has made a fervent appeal to his c colleagues assembly members in the Wa Municipal assembly to prioritize compromise and consensus-building citing developmental setbacks if the assembly fails to elect a Presiding Member immediately. The failure to elect a Presiding Member during the inauguration of the assembly on Monday, February 12, has raised concerns about potential delays in the assembly’s crucial processes.

Comprising 31 elected members and 14 government appointees, the Wa Municipal Assembly attempted to select a Presiding Member in the first day who would champion the municipality’s developmental agenda.

However, the initial election saw two candidates, Hon. Daubile Alhassan from the NPP party and Hon. Siita from the NDC party, fall short of obtaining the required two-thirds majority.

During the first round of voting, Hon. Daubile secured 25 votes, while Hon. Siita garnered 21 votes. Faced with an inconclusive outcome, a second round of voting was undertaken, leading to an unprecedented deadlock. Both candidates obtained 23 votes each, leaving the assembly in a state of limbo.

The assembly will however return to continue in the search for the pm after 10 working days starting from12th February, 2024.

Appealing to his colleagues, Hon. Jiga called for unity, understanding, and a willingness to compromise for the greater good of Wa Municipal Assembly. He emphasized the need for the assembly members to rise above party lines and prioritize the interests of the municipality and its residents.
